The Blake RV Park and Horse Motel, Kingman, AZ

Some days you reach into the cookie jar and find the cookies are all gone. That was my day yesterday. I had been SO very eager for our first day as real life adventurers. However, my body has a mind of its own, and it’s one I can’t argue with. I've tried.

I was more than disappointed, but I have learned the best way to get through a bad physical day is to let my body rest and work out its own issues. And that I did. I slept until 5 pm; missed the entire first day. Boo-Hoo. The boys assured me I didn't miss much. As the horses are paying guests, unless you know one personally, you can’t go visit them.

They guys did not find any cool artifacts, but they did find some fun art!

Mark has spent many a year, planted like a tree in the middle of 'my' kitchen while I was cooking, waiting like a dog for a spare morsel he could commandeer. I used to find this annoying, as I attempted to buzz around in my happy place, then “boom” I would bump into this giant tree, rooted firmly between myself and my destination. I started giving the Tree “tasks” to keep him out of my path of travel. “Here, stir this.” “Can you dice these for me?” and so on. Next thing I know, the Tree had become my sous chef. He also paid attention to methods, processes, seasonings, and techniques. The Tree absorbed all of this like a sponge. Now when I have bad health day, sous chef takes over the role of Chef. Nothing fancy, always palatable.

After dinner, Mark struck up a conversation with the man in the rig to the left of us. They had been full-time RV travelers for seven years, haling from Louisiana. He gave us some ‘local tips’ on what not to miss while in that area. It is also where my favorite hot sauce originates; Louisiana Hot Sauce! I’ll be sure to stock up…well, with an RV pantry, I guess “stocking up” would be purchasing an extra bottle. *sigh

Last night after the sun had set and the large street lights lit up, copious numbers of large bats swarmed around the lamps, eating unsuspecting bugs that were attracted to the light. I wonder how the bats fed before electricity.

Overall I’d say The Blake Ranch and Horse Motel would rate an ‘A’ for cleanliness. Besides the two Canine Corals, cute name for fenced in dog walk areas:

And,The Horse Motel (that was off limits), the only entertainment was to walk around and check out the other RV’s, greeting the occasional dog walker; instant comrades on the same mission.

It was a very beautiful and well groomed area. I guess the only negative comment I would make, besides boring, is that due to the close proximity of the I-40 freeway, it was a little noisy come bedtime.

So ends our first adventure day. Nothing like I’d pictured, but that is the beauty of life; it is sometimes the unexpected bits that turn out to be the best bits.

We are back on the road. Next stop Gallup, New Mexico. Hoping our next destination has some of those good bits awaiting us. Oooh, I see TREES ahead!

  1. Hi, You are probably around Holbrook about now. I should have met you there for lunch! We're up here in PInetop, been here a week. I tried calling you, but must not have the right cell phone number because it just rang forever, no answer or service. Love your blog and know you are in for so many wonderful adventures.

  3. Feeling much better, thank you. We're all set up. Had dinner. I do believe pasta has healing powers...or maybe it's the wine. ;)
Thanks for the info. We are on a time schedule pretty much through September. After that, we can roll like a Tumbleweed. What you are describing is exactly what we are looking for; full hook-ups but still rustic.
